SOM
Czech Society for Butterfly and Moth Conservation (= SOM) is a non-governmental and non profit-making organization with interests in the conservation of butterflies, moths and their habitats, mainly in the territory of the Czech Republic. We gather information concerning the above mentioned and related problems and offer them to both amateur/professional public and institutions. We carry out expertises for state institutions, non-governmental conservational organizations, companies etc. The society also organizes meetings, promotes butterfly/moth conservation and in the form of various informative materials participates in its popularization. SOM also cooperates internationally in the field of insect research and conservation, for example as a joint member of the Slovak Entomological Society. Above all, SOM deals with its own projects concerning research and management in certain areas. The results of butterfly mapping project co-organized by SOM were compiled in an extensive publication named Butterflies of the Czech Republic: Distribution and conservation I/II. Up to date, the society has 55 ordinary members, who meet regularly every half-year on the ocassion of member meetings, many members even more often at work concerning management and research projects.
GOALS
Arise from numerous partial activities and tasks (e.g. the mapping and research on butterfly/moth fauna in both more and less examined areas, proposals and realization of steps leading to their better perspectives, the popularization etc.) leading to the main object - to change the unfavourable trend of both diversity and abundance decline from the landscape.
